INCLUSIVE ANIMATING ARTS PROJECT ARRIVES IN MARKET HARBOROUGH



Free participation in expressive visual art is being offered to people of all ages this February half-term thanks to a new Creative Leicestershire project funded by Arts Council England.


Families will be able to enjoy a dedicated artist commission and activities facilitated by 'Animating Leicestershire Towns' project which is visiting five towns across Leicestershire including Market Harborough.


Artist Danielle Vaughan, renowned for her creative practice of turning trash into treasure by repurposing ripped paper, is bringing an interactive thought-provoking event titled '’ to Market Harborough which has a sustainability and environment focus.


Participants will be able to take inspiration from old newspapers and magazines and reBuilding a Greener Future Togetherused cardboard crafted into building blocks to display messages.


The event is being supported by Harborough District Council and will be based in Harborough Indoor Market with pop up sessions offered at Market Harborough Library, St Dionysius Church and The Eco Village.


The timetable is as follows:


Harborough Indoor Market, Northampton Road


  • Tuesday 20 February - 10am - 12pm & 1pm - 3pm 

  • Thursday 22 February - 10am - 12pm 

  • Saturday 24 February - 10am - 12pm & 1pm - 2pm 


St Dionysius Church, Church Street


  • Wednesday 21 February - 10.30am & 1.30pm 


Market Harborough Library, First Floor, The Symington Building, Adam and Eve Street


  • Thursday 22 February - 2pm - 4pm 

  • The Eco Village, 65 St Mary’s Road

  • Friday 23 February - 10am - 12pm 


Cllr Phil Knowles, Leader of Harborough District Council and Cabinet lead for Culture, Leisure, Economy, and Tourism, said: “It’s fantastic that Market Harborough is involved in this unique community arts project which will bring people of all ages together through creativity and shared views on environmental issues. As well as boosting town centre footfall there are wellbeing and health benefits through these social interaction opportunities.”


Cllr Woodiwiss, Cabinet lead for Environmental and Climate Change said: "It is great to have an event taking place in Market Harborough that both encourages creativity through reuse of otherwise waste materials, and also manages to visit green themes about the lifecycle of materials. I hope that all of the participants come away with a great piece of art and a lasting memory of the event."
